Our Mission

To lead diverse community partners toward the common purpose of reducing the occurrence and impact of intimate partner violence.

Our Vision

That one day Maryland will be a state where families and relationships thrive on mutual trust and respect and where there is no place for violence.

Our Beliefs and Commitment

As the statewide domestic violence coalition, we work daily with local domestic violence service providers and other partners to eliminate intimate partner violence and create a safer Maryland.

Our work is led by our organizational beliefs:

  • We believe that oppression is the root of all violence.
  • We believe that to end intimate partner violence we must oppose all forms of oppression
  • We believe that to achieve justice requires us to address the intersectionality of all oppressions – including racism, sexism, ageism, heterosexism, genderism, ableism and all other forms of persecution.
  • We demonstrate our beliefs as pledge to acknowledge, empower and amplify the voices of those who are marginalized.
  • We work to honor our pledge by holding ourselves accountable to the implementing the following commitments on a daily basis
  • We commit to dismantling the intersecting layer of oppression that promote injustice internally at our organization
  • We commit to dismantling the intersecting layers of oppression that promote injustice to survivors, local domestic violence programs and our partners
  • We commit to building a movement where all people, especially those with lived experiences of violence are welcomed
  • We employ an intersectional framework and pledge to uphold these values through our hiring practices, programming, public policy work, training and technical assistance.
  • We are committed to creating a safe, equitable and inclusive Maryland for all who live here by daily striving to demonstrate our organizational beliefs and living up to our commitments.

What We Do

Annual Reporting

Our Annual Report provides a comprehensive look at the impact of our work, the progress we’ve made, and the ongoing efforts to support survivors, service providers, and communities across the state.

Awareness and Education

  • Informational Resources – A comprehensive website, e-newsletters, social media, and literature distribution.
  • Language Access – Interpretation services for survivors who speak languages other than English.
  • Fatality Tracking & Remembrance – A statewide fatality database and an Annual Memorial Service to honor lives lost.
  • Community & Advocacy Events – Our Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony to recognize leadership and progress.

Community Collaboration

MNADV collaborates with local, state, and national organizations and convened committees and task forces to improve the systems response to domestic violence in Maryland.

MNADV collaborations promote coordination and partnerships to improve services to domestic violence survivors, enhance resource sharing, and promote legislation and policies that increase victim safety and abuser accountability.

Training & Technical Assistance

We provide expert training and resources to professionals who work with survivors, including advocates, law enforcement, healthcare providers, and legal professionals. Through our specialized technical assistance, we equip frontline responders with the tools they need to improve victim safety and offender accountability.

Programs

  • Lethality Assessment – MNADV provides technical assistance to promote, coordinate, and sustain (LAP) implementation in Maryland and across the country
  • Abuse Intervention Programming – Abuse Intervention Programs (AIPs) in Maryland help people who use abusive behavior learn to change.
  • Affinity Groups –  Vital platforms for collaboration, professional development, and advocacy, enhancing our mission to combat intimate partner violence.

Public Policy and Systems Advocacy

MNADV affects systemic change by monitoring state legislation educating policymakers about the potential impact of proposed laws on survivors, and through its coordination of policy advocacy.
