Reproductive Justice and Healthcare Access

April 7th, 2026 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm with 1.5 Category 1 CEUS Available

This 201-level training explores healthcare access through a reproductive justice framework, centering the lived realities of survivors of domestic violence across the lifespan. Participants will examine how insurance systems, Medicaid, healthcare availability, and structural barriers shape survivors’ ability to access prenatal care, abortion care, primary and specialty healthcare, and ongoing care needed to support healthy families.

Moving beyond a single-issue focus, this session highlights how healthcare systems can either support or undermine all four reproductive justice tenets. Participants will strengthen their ability to identify access gaps, understand the impact of violence and control within healthcare systems, and apply survivor-centered strategies to improve healthcare access.

Objectives:

  • Describe how healthcare access relates to all four reproductive justice tenets, including pregnancy, abortion access, bodily autonomy, and healthy families.
  • Identify systemic healthcare barriers such as insurance gaps, Medicaid eligibility and renewal challenges, provider shortages, cost, and confidentiality risks.
  • Explain how domestic violence intersects with healthcare systems, including reproductive coercion, insurance manipulation, and disrupted care.
  • Apply a reproductive justice lens to healthcare advocacy, supporting survivors in navigating reproductive, primary, and specialty care.
  • Identify practical strategies and partnerships to strengthen survivor-centered healthcare access in their communities.

Statewide Comprehensive Training

MNADV’s Comprehensive Training is a virtual training designed for new domestic violence advocates across Maryland. MNADV partners with local domestic violence programs across the state, with local experts frequently presenting to provide community-informed, practical insight.

This year’s training will include both live sessions and a small asynchronous portion that participants will complete on their own time between sessions.

The 5-Day Comprehensive Training will take place May 5–May 19, with live virtual sessions held every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 AM–2:00 PM.
